As we open the 2026 26th Korea Queer Film Festival, we turn our attention to faint, flickering lights that break through the pitch-black reality filled with discrimination and hatred, rather than the darkness. We call upon our hope, enduring and inextinguishable even in the face of harsh winds.
When a beam of light from a projector cuts through dusty darkness and reaches the screen, a world unseen before unfolds. However, in this time of war, violence, and hatred, a polished and ornate world feels shameful. What raises us up from overwhelming despair are these: a light captured by trembling hands holding a camera from the depths of despair, faces upon fallen ruins, a small gleam that helps us find one another in isolated rooms.
These lights often flicker faintly or waver with uncertainty. Yet the flicker is the very evidence of our dynamism-proof that we are still moving-and the mighty resonance against cold silence. The KQFF wishes these fragmented lights not to scatter into isolated dots. As small lights form a cinematic world together, we hope for each moment shimmering in its own distinctive color to be woven into a vast constellation.
Even if the era of violence obscures our vision, we will seek one anotherโs eyes through flickering lights. Let us meet where the camera you hold becomes a signal of survival for someone else and the spark I kindle becomes a signpost for your journey. In the moment my light and your light overlap, we connect anew. We hope you will discover the relief that you are not alone, along with the steadfast heart to keep moving forward, among the particles of light filling the theater.
